The Stock Market Project
Division 1 students took part in a 2 session program offered by Vancity to promote Financial Literacy. Through this project, students learned about the stock market— what it is and how it works. They were given a portfolio containing the information discussed during the session. They are then informed that they each have a “pretend” portfolio of $25,000 to invest in the stock market. Before investing, they were advised to research trends and individual companies, and to diversify their stock purchases. Each week, they recorded the current value of their stocks. At the end of the 6 week project the value of their portfolio is determined and they shared the results. As well as a great learning experience, Vancity also entered each student’s name into a draw for a $100 Vancity term deposit. The lucky recipient of this term deposit was Angelina Rudakova.
Congratulations to Angelina and all of Division 1 for their well-prepared Stock Market Project presentations.
