CAMERON GOES TO THE OLYMPICS!!
We have had a busy and fun week. Yesterday we were pleased to “kick off” the school year with our Olympic Theme. We had a “torch lighting” ceremony and then enjoyed a presentation by the Vancouver Hall of Fame as well as two Para-Olympic gold medal winners, Marni Abbott Peter and Richard Peter!! Marni and Richard have both won medals for wheelchair basket ball, and Marni is also a member of the Vancouver Hall of Fame. This assembly was followed by all the students participating in a mini-Olympic sporting event.
Today all the staff and students enjoyed drumming with Milton Randal. With 150 drums going at once and the other half of the school dancing, it was a loud and fun experience!!.
Tomorrow we are having our Welcome Back Picnic. Please feel free to join us for a fun social event…and it looks like we will have sun! We will be eating from 11:55 TO 12:35.

The Stock Market Project
Division 1 students took part in a 2 session program offered by Vancity to promote Financial Literacy. Through this project, students learned about the stock market— what it is and how it works. They were given a portfolio containing the information discussed during the session. They are then informed that they each have a “pretend” portfolio of $25,000 to invest in the stock market. Before investing, they were advised to research trends and individual companies, and to diversify their stock purchases. Each week, they recorded the current value of their stocks. At the end of the 6 week project the value of their portfolio is determined and they shared the results. As well as a great learning experience, Vancity also entered each student’s name into a draw for a $100 Vancity term deposit. The lucky recipient of this term deposit was Angelina Rudakova.
Congratulations to Angelina and all of Division 1 for their well-prepared Stock Market Project presentations.
Cameron’s School Garden
